Penn & Teller: Fool Us is a competition for magic TV show that features magicians who perform tricks before American magic veteran duo Penn & Teller. Its initial 2 seasons featured nimble host Jonathan Ross, and the fourth season by the female host Alyson.
Every episode begins with the introduction stating the purpose of the series. Penn & Teller come out and are seated at the stage. The hopeful magicians perform their acts in front of them with an audience in the studio. Following each show, Penn & Teller privately talk while the host interview the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal their knowledge of how the trick was performed, typically using cryptic words or by recording the technique and presenting it privately to the magicians for confirmation, so they aren’t committing public disclosure of the method of the trick.

If a trick cannot be solved after each performance, the magician who performed it is awarded a Fool Us trophy and a five-star vacation in Las Vegas. Season one was shot at Fountain Studios in London, England (for the first time). The second season from now on was filmed at the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas. Penn Jillette and Teller have been performing in the form of Penn & Teller since 1977.
Teller states that doublespeak helps teach people new techniques without ruining the trick. If Penn & Teller are wrongor are not able to find out the method used to perform the trick, the magician is awarded a Fool Us trophy and the opportunity to later perform at one of Penn & Teller’s Las Vegas shows. A backstage judge, who is knowledgeable about the tricks of the magician’s trade and is intimately informed how the trick is performed ahead of the event, will make any needed calls to determine if Penn & Teller were properly fooled. At the end of each episode, Penn & Teller perform a magic act that they have created.
